IMPROVE MIGRANT WORKER'S CHILDREN SCHOOL'S BASIC FACILITIES

Lack of school selection for their children is one of the biggest problem that millions of migrant workers in Xinjiang are facing today. In Xinjiang, the children of migrant workers are not eligible to attend public schools in the city as their "Hu Kou" (resident registration) are in their hometown. However, the migrant workers cannot afford to put their children to expensive private schools through minimum wages.

The Urumqi Shui Mo Gou elementary school is one of the few schools available for migrant's children as it was privately founded by volunteers and retired public schools teachers. The school currently has 696 students and 30 teachers, but it lacked basic facilities such as blackboards, books, and cooking supplies.

Silk Road Oasis has helped the school to replace 80 blackboards and set up a cafeteria for students.
